Reflective practice

Speech pathologists should develop reflective practice skills so that they learn from each experience with an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander client and improve the service they provide with each new client with guidance of a mentor.

Reference: N/A
NHMRC level of Evidence: GPP

Rationale:
Critical reflective practice brings cultural competency behaviours into the foreground of professional and interpersonal practice.  Critical reflective practice involves both examining and integrating Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and Western knowledge systems to help non-Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander people know “how to act” when working in an unfamiliar context.
